Think the unthinkable. Do the undoable.
Ever seen an ostrich fly? Well, Samsung made it possible. With the help of VR, an ostrich does the unimaginable. Leo Burnett Chicago makes an ostrich believe that it can spread its wings and fly. Samsung’s ‘ostrich’ commercial is brilliantly directed by Matthijis Van Heinjningen and took home seven prestigious Lions Awards for its creative excellence. Now, here’s some food for thought for small brands: don’t waste time thinking that it can’t be done. Instead, start believing that it can be done. Wake up and smell the coffee. Small brands often operate from the mindset that they don’t stand a chance against the big boys. And that’s because they believe that. They allow themselves to be bullied. Create your own path to market and sell differently. You don’t need a big budget to shatter that mindset. Just give yourself the chance to believe that ‘it can be done.’ Small businesses need to think differently in terms of strategy. They need to be agile, sprint-ready and creatively compete with their big competitors. Be innovative – do things that haven’t been done before. Push the bar. Take risks. Because it can be done, yes it can be done. This also gives the agency the opportunity to create campaigns that truly make a difference by creating disruptive and result-oriented campaigns. After the debacle of Note 7, Samsung deep dives into the basic human urge to strive for the extra-ordinary by demonstrating the company’s commitment to break boundaries and do the incredible. #DoWhatYouCant
This one's for the naysayers.
Ignore the naysayers. Just keep doing what you need to do. Just keep doing it. Just do it. That’s what Nike Korea’s new “Just Do It” Campaign “Play Loud” is screaming. This 90 second video by Weiden + Kennedy Tokyo breaks the stereotypical Korean culture of social norms and strict conformity. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONLW-q4S8Gg[/embed] The commercial features Korean Football Legend Lee Young-Pyo in a powerful role, taunting sports athletes…“It’s a waste of time…Get a job, instead…This won’t help you…Learn your limits…This won’t change anything…etc” The society will always discourage you, stop you from believing and force you to rather do what everybody does. They will keep ranting these familiar mouthfuls like it’s their job. But you need to keep doing yours. It beautifully shows the mirror to the Korean society. It encourages athletes to ignore those negative refrains and keep training hard. Because that’s what winners do. It has a strong cultural connect and hits you right in the gut.[/tatsu_text][/tatsu_column][/tatsu_row][/tatsu_section]
Pause the ad. Read the fine print. Win a holiday for two. Simple!
Crispin Porter + Bogusky has put to test viewers' eyes rather than their ears with a TV ad covered in legal disclosure that happens to include rules for entering a sweepstakes. Viewers who paused the ad, rather than skipping, learnt how to enter for a chance at a trip for two. Airing the ad on TV for a week earlier this month, the brand saw about 350 viewers who followed the steps to log onto Twitter and post a message with the hashtag #IReadTheLegalSweeps, according to CP+B. The TV spot actually encourages consumers to use their Digital Video Recorders, to rewind and pause the ad so that they can discover a clue that will reward lucky viewers for their engagement with a really amazing prize. This Hotel.com Ad breaks the mould and finds a fun way to add engagement to a traditional media placement. We all hate the legal fine print but using its complexity to actually engage the viewer and participate is just amazing*. *No conditions apply 😉

Looks like Brazil’s Almap BBDO has actually created epic advertising at non-epic prices for iStock – by Getty Images. This campaign Brilliantly demonstrates how small businesses can create effective and compelling advertising by tapping into royalty free video and image library of iStock. All three ads start with some stunning scenes - mighty tornado engulfing a house, satellite orbiting the planet and two adventurers at the peak of a gigantic mountain in the Alps. And before we know it, Lewis & Sons Heating Installations, Miracle Mike Contractors and Cosmo Cable and Satellite Services make a cheesy connect for their services.
